google has created a new service that bundles some of their previously existing apps into new combinations of offerings (in essence, new services).
one is google apps. to learn more about it, visit google apps web site. google apps is a suite of online productivity tools that enable you to create documents of different types (text, spreadsheeets, presentations, databases) and allows you to control versions, share, and collaborate with others. google has also created different "editions" for these products, including a collaboration edition for workplaces, education institutions, non-profits, and other organizations.
another service google recently started offering is google sites. to learn more about google sites, visit the google sites web site. google sites is a set of online tools for people to create collaboration web sites; think of workgroups or project management. (also, compare to atlassian's confluence, and microsoft's sharepoint). google sites allow you to create a web-based space for project collaboration, such as file managers, project task and issues tracking, etc. integrated with google apps for education, google sites offers a powerful new way of collaborating with others on projects, whether they be class- or research- or administrative- or IT-related.
